Here is a fascinating silver ring by the contemporary Danish silversmithy of Jens Johannes Aagaard (See Bio).  The design comprises a textured band of silver  with a band of gold folding from the side to the front ,  where it opens to reveal a clear stone.  This looks a bit like an eye or a serpent's head.
