Here is a fabulous silver ring by the distinguished silversmith Ola Gorie, based on the Scottish northern islands of Orkney (see bio). Invaded by the Vikings in the 8th century, these islands were under Norwegian rule until 1472, leaving many traces, influences and links. From the Broch of Burrian, North Ronaldsay, the most remote of the islands, this cross suggests the presence of Celtic Christianity amidst Pictish culture. It is engraved on a a large stone slab, found in 1870. With Ola Gorie box.
