Here is a fabulous Sterling silver brooch by the distinguished silversmith Ola Gorie, based on the Scottish northern islands of Orkney (see bio). Invaded by the Vikings in the 8th century, these islands were under Norwegian rule until 1472, leaving many traces, influences and links. This brooch is called Sjusta and the design is based on a pattern of interlaced snakes carved on a Viking rune stone in Sjusta, Uppland, Sweden.
