Here is a wonderful pair of Sterling silver scallop shaped shell earrings with posts and butterfly backs for pierced ears. They were designed by Arno Malinowski for the Danish silversmithy Georg Jensen.
Malinowski's figurative designs of the 1930s and 1940s are still much loved; who doesn't know the kneeling deer, the butterflies, the stylised birds and other brooches, many of which were in production until recently as part of the Heritage Collection. The motif for these earrings was also used for cufflinks and a bracelet, but the earrings with posts are extremely rare, as they were usually made with screws or clips. Or they may have been cleverly adapted. They are identical, but not a pair, as one bears an earlier mark than the other,
