Arno Malinowski was one of the most versatile and successful designers who ever worked for the Georg Jensen Silver smithy. He designed for Georg Jensen from 1936 to 1944, and again from 1949 to 1965. Most Jensen lovers are familiar with his Art Deco stylised animal broochs such as the kneeling deer, the two dolphins , the butterflies and the chubby birds. This cockerel is hardly ever seen on the re-sale market.

Here is one of the most perenially popular brooches by the leading Danish silversmith, Georg Jensen. It was designed in 1937 by Arno Malinowski, who worked with the company from 1936 to 1976, and created most of the endearing figurative motifs in the Art Deco style which characterised Jensen's output in mid 20th century prior to abstract modernism.

Koppel's innovative modernist biomorphic designs became icons for Danish Modern in the 1950s. Here is a wonderful brooch by the Danish company Eiler & Marløe, renowned silversmiths active during the first half of the 20th Century, registered 1920 to 1967 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The most outstanding designs were produced during the 1920s and 1930s in the Art Deco style, either functionalist or as here, in flowing organic designs. This one features a kneeling deer hiding in foliage.

This is an extremely rare design by the Norwegian silversmith Arne Nordlie, whose company has been esteblished for over 70 years. Anton Michelsen Eigil Jensen Boomerang brooch

Here is a famous brooch, much copied in smaller versions. The cool clear lines of the metal will appeal to all lovers of Modernism. It is called Boomerang for obvious reasons, and is so large that it could almost be used as such! It was created by Eigil Jensen, a silversmith who joined Anton Michelsen in 1943 and stayed for 40 YEARs, rising to the post of Production Manager. Although designed in the 1950s, this brooch may have been produced later, as it was very popular.

Danish 'Skønvirke' silver brooch

Fabulous example of the Danish artistic style called Skønvirke, (literal translation is 'aesthetic product'). It emerged at the end of the 19th century, and can be compared to the British Arts & Crafts movement and the European Art Nouveau or Jugendstil. However, the Danish style and the works produced, differed from the other European movements both in philosophy and design. The underlying motivation was to produce handmade goods which were both beautiful and affordable. When it came to the production of jewellery, the artists abandoned gold and diamonds in favour of silver and semi-precious stones. Very few silversmiths signed their work, as is the case with this gorgeous organic creation, heavily influenced by the artist Bindesbøll.

David-Andersen Sterling gilt trefoil Viking Saga brooch

David Andersen's 1960s "Saga" series included of copies of prehistoric finds deposited in the Oslo historical museum.  The original of this brooch was found  on the Kvarberg Hill near Vågå in central Norway..  The trefoil design first seen on Frankish warrior sword belts, but  it was adopted by the Norse  and adapted for use as brooches on women's costumes and with animal decoration. such as the gripping beasts seen here
